A Wrinkle On - Magic Party Giant Farm Animals
JACK STEPHENS
Jack suggests using the Roy Baker PATEO (Point At Two Eliminate One) force with the Magic Party Giant Farm Animals in order to create an entertaining magic routine. If you do not know this force here is how it works.
You have a number of articles and the magician points to any two and a spectator eliminates either of those two. Then the spectator points to any two of the objects remaining, and the performer eliminates one of them. This continues, in alternating turns, until there is just one object left and that will be one predicted earlier. To make this work all you have to remember, is that when you are pointing to two of the objects, ensure that NEITHER of them are the predicted one, and when choosing one of two chosen by a spectator, simply avoid eliminating the predicted one. If you use an odd number of objects, you take your turn to select two objects first and it will then work out correctly.
In Jack's children's routine he gets five children up to hold the five animals. The children can, of course, make the various animal noises to match the one they are holding, or you could even get them to tell a joke about each animal (if they don't know a joke, you tell the audience one instead. There are plenty in the many joke books available.)
You then get the birthday child involved with you in the PATEO force selections, finally ending with one of the children remaining with their animal still on display. Rather than have a written prediction of the chosen animal, Jack has a pre-made balloon animal which he gives to the children instead. He uses the horse as he says he can make that one! The balloon animal is hidden in a bag which at the start of the effect he brings out and places in view.
Jack also offers a game using four of the animals from the set. Get a child to stand holding one of the animals in the four corners of the hall. The rest of the children congregate in the middle. You then call out PIG and all the children have to race over to the child holding the pig. The last child to arrive then calls out the name of another one of the animals and everyone races to that one, and so it goes on. Simple, no elimination, yet fun! Need plenty of room - watch out that it doesn't get too wild with the children racing around!
