A Wrinkle On - Yes And No
GEOFF CHIPPENDALE
Geoff sent me a couple of ideas for use with Yes And No which are additions to, rather than alterations of, the original effect.
The first suggestion was that if you had a second set of ESP cards which were marked on the backs, you could have one chosen at random and placed sight unseen on the table. You know which symbol it is, of course, via the secret marking on the rear. You then use the Yes And No cards to reveal a prediction of which symbol would be chosen and naturally enough on turning over the tabled selection, it matches the ESP card which had YES on its back.
The advantage of this idea is that neither you or the spectators appear to have any idea which symbol has been chosen at the point when the Yes And No cards are shown.
The second thought is just a way of using the YES card as a continuity gag. Having fanned all five cards to reveal the four NO cards with the YES card on top, square the cards and hold them with the YES word facing the audience. You patter along the lines that TV audiences are given prompt cards at appropriate moments in order to make sure they react in the correct way, and that you would like to try this now. 'Would you like to see another trick?' you ask. As you speak you move the YES card back and forth in front of your chest and the audience respond with a yes which leads you into your next effect.
