A freely selected card (which can be signed if required) is slipped into an envelope that is only just slightly bigger than the size of the card itself and the flap is sealed down. The envelope is shown freely both sides to confirm that the card really is trapped inside.

With a pair of scissors, the envelope is cut most of the way across its width. Despite this when the end is cut off the envelope and the chosen card inside slid from within, it is completely unharmed and yet the envelope is left in two separate pieces.

This is a clever adaptation of an old principle which makes the method extremely convincing.
