Face Value

A spectator is handed an invisible pack of cards which the performer claims he has arranged so that all the red cards are in one half and all the black cards in the other. The spectator is invited to select either the black cards or the red – let’s say he chooses the black set. These invisible cards are placed to one side.

Next, from the red cards still in his hands the participant is asked to eliminate either the hearts or the diamonds. Let’s imagine he elects to discard the diamonds. These invisible cards are placed on top of the rejected black ones.

Now he is requested to nominate any of the hearts cards. He might choose the 5H. This card is extracted from the imaginary cards in his hand and placed on the spectator’s extended palm.

A real card box is now brought into view. When the deck is taken out from inside it is openly displayed to be a pack that has backs but no faces. The magician claims to be able to tell one blank card from another by naming a few of the blank face cards, but the audience are not impressed!

One of the blank cards is now selected by a spectator at random and is placed onto the invisible 5H already apparently lying on the first helper’s palm. A rub on the back of this real card and when it is turned over it’s face is now printed to match the 5H randomly chosen.

This effect is supplied as a Premier E-Routine, which is a downloadable pdf text file which contains a link to additional downloadable video instructions. You will need to make up two special decks using readily available cards.
